Difficulty Level: Advanced

A woodland-inspired amigurumi project designed to bring texture and charm to your handmade collection.
This free Baby Hedgehog Amigurumi pattern is designed by Margarita Maksimova and features a sweet hedgehog with fluffy textured spikes. Made using semi-cotton YarnArt Jeans for the body and soft YarnArt Mink for the spiky coat, this design creates a realistic yet cozy woodland look. Its expressive face and compact shape make it a lovely choice for fall decor or thoughtful handmade gifts. Projects like the raccoon amigurumi show how textured forest animals can become seasonal favorites. We sincerely thank Margarita Maksimova for sharing this beautiful hedgehog design.

This is an advanced amigurumi pattern intended for crocheters comfortable working with textured yarn and detailed shaping. The spikes are created using fantasy yarn, adding depth and softness that goes beyond beginner-level construction. If you enjoy woodland characters, you may also love the small fox amigurumi featured on our blog.

The pattern uses a 2 mm crochet hook, 10 mm safety eyes, stuffing, stitch markers, pins, and basic sewing tools. Optional accessories like the scarf are not included in the pattern. At the end of the pattern, you will also find more amigurumi hedgehog ideas shared for extra inspiration.

Assembly

Sew the two body pieces together.
Stuff the toy, but not too firmly.

Work one round of hdc along the seam (where marked in red in the original photo). Insert the hook directly into the stitches as shown.

Then work three additional rounds on the upper part:
two rounds of sc and one round of hdc.
You may add more rounds on top and along the edges if desired.

Make a small eye indentation.
Embroider the nose using a split strand of yarn and a small needle.
Add a small amount of stuffing to the snout and sew it on.

Sew on the ears, cheeks, and optionally the legs.
It is recommended to sew the legs after trying on the scarf.

Dress your hedgehog and it is ready!
